Both nationally and internationally, Mr. Katz is considered as a premier practitioner in the field of industrial designs. He has helped procure more than 5,000 design patents in the U.S. and more than 15,000 design patents/registrations outside the U.S. He has also helped to successfully enforce more than 100 design patents. He is a former USPTO Utility Patent Examiner and has a Mechanical Engineering degree from Carnegie-Mellon and a J.D. from George Washington University School of Law.
He is a professor at George Washington University School of Law teaching Design Law and a professor at Georgetown University Law School teaching Intellectual Property Pretrial Litigation Skills. A frequent speaker on industrial design-related topics, Mr. Katz recently presented at The USF School of Law McCarthy Institute and Microsoft Corporation Symposium in London, the AIPLA Spring Meeting in Philadelphia and the FICPI Japan Intellectual Property Kyoto Symposium.
Mr. Katz is a longstanding member of FICPI and currently serves as Secretary of the U.S. Section, and is a former Chair of the Industrial Design Section.
